Extraction Aftercare
- Anesthesia usually lasts several hours. Be careful not to bite your lip, cheek or tongue.
- DO NOT- For the next 24 hours - DO NOT
- Smoke
- Drink alcohol
- Drink through a straw
- Rinse
- Engage in vigorous activity
- DO NOT RINSE MOUTH TODAY. Tomorrow, rinse mouth gently every 3-4 hours (especially after meals) using 1/4 teaspoon of salt to an 8 ounce glass of warm water. Continue rinses for several days.
- BLEEDING. Following extractions, some bleeding is to be expected. If president bleeding occurs, place gauze pads over bleeding area and bite down firmly for about a 1/2 hour. Repeat if necessary. If bleeding persist place a moist tea tag directly over the extraction site. Call Dr Frost if the bleeding does not stop.
- SWELLING. An ice pack should be applied to the face near the extraction site for 10 minutes per hour for the next 2-3 hours.
- PAIN. For mild to average pain, use any non-aspirin type of medication you prefer.
- FOOD. Light diet is advisable during the first 24 hours. Drink plenty fluids.
- BONY EDGES. Small sharp bone fragments may work up through the gums during healing . These are not roots; Please return to the office for their simple removal.
- If any unusual symptoms occur, call Dr. Frost.
- The proper care following oral surgical procedures will hasten recovery and prevent complications.
